<statement>The shoreline and wetlands datasets were digitized at a working scale of 1:1200. Maximum scale used during the digitizing process was 1:600. Horizontal accuracy of the shoreline is directly dependent upon the accuracy of the source layers.
</statement>
<prcStep>
<stepDesc>Digitized the shoreline using 2011 true-color orthophotography primarily. When necessary 2011 CIR or 2007 true-color orthophotography was used.
• Barren land limit determined by: Presence of vegetation, Edge of wettest land, Presence of boats/docks (take midway point between water’s edge and fast land) • Mud flats left on water edge of shoreline, with the assumption that they would be inundated by water at high tide • Presence of bulkhead supersedes revetment (rip-rap, rock piling, etc) as shoreline boundary and the top of the bulkhead will be digitized as shoreline • Bulk heads and revetments are fast land and serve as water edge of shoreline. In the case of revetments, the toe of the revetment will be digitized as shoreline unless a high water mark is present, in which case the high water mark will be captured as shoreline. • Perpendicular groins and jetties will not be included in shoreline unless they are mapped as shoreline on 72 wetland maps or are greater than 10 meters wide. • Tombolas will not be included in shoreline • Parallel groins will not be included in shoreline • Exclude bridges or roads that intersect shoreline Other consideration made while capturing the shoreline were: • Digitizing scale took place at a minimum of 1:1200 (max of 1:600 used for inspection) • 1972 Wetlands maps provided the extent to which rivers were digitized • Docks greater than 20 meters wide were treated as shoreline • Digitizing of polygon water features ends where the feature visually becomes a line • Consideration was given to tree canopy and shadows • When faced with doubt about whether or not shoreline runs under a structure, error on the side the landward edge and intersect at 90 degrees (flag area for review by local representatives)</stepDesc>
</prcStep>
<prcStep>
<stepDesc>Digitized wetlands using 2011 color infrared ortho-imagery and collateral datasets including LiDAR, contours, 1972 wetland maps, and DNR wetland maps.
• Digitizing scale took place at a minimum of 1:1200 (max of 1:600 used for inspection) • Landward edge of tidal wetlands (persistent emergent wetlands/scrub-shrub) interpreted from 2011 CIR image and checked against topographic data • Wetland determinations were checked against rectified 1972 Wetland Maps • Areas of disturbed wetlands will be reviewed and permits will be checks • Collateral datasets were used to aid in interpretation including soils, DRGs, LiDAR, and true-color imagery • Review point created for instances where there is a significant difference between ESRGC interpretation and 72 wetland maps (decision to be made by CAC) and to indicate where wetlands have been delineated and were not on 72 maps • Flag areas of wetland that appear to be mowed/disturbed • Wetlands that occur in front of a revetment will be digitized as wetland • Lines smoothed by .01 • Capture uplands within wetlands (in wetland feature class) that are mapped in 72 wetland maps AND are greater than 1 acre. </stepDesc>
